This
Medical Spanish program was implemented to help Medical
professionals and students develop their knowledge of
Spanish in an immersed setting. The program teaches a
variety of topics so that the student will understand
the culture as well as certain phrases. Topics such as
Hispanics and their Health, Anatomic and Physiologic vocabulary,
Conversations for Administrative Personnel, Conversations
for Health Professionals, Medical Therapy, Laboratory
Tests, and Patient Instructions, and much more. The structure
of the course begins in the morning with an overview of
general Spanish followed by an afternoon class concentrating
on Medical Spanish. In addition we offer many volunteer
opportunities in local clinics and hospitals where you
can practice what you have learned in the classroom. Here
you will learn all the appropriate terminology needed
to practice medicine. This is the most comprehensive program
of its kind. There are some days where you will be working
in the hospital or clinics and apply what you have learned
from class. Students will work directly with Costa Rican
medical professionals to gain the most from the time here.
